Ethel Hickman Carter

A graveside service for Ethel Maxine Sanders Hickman Carter, Colfax native who lived most of her adult life in the Seattle area, will be at the Sanders family plot in the Colfax Cemetery May 19 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at Jon Scholz’s home in Steptoe.

Mrs. Carter died Sept. 2, 2011, and a memorial service was conducted Sept. 24 at a retirement community in Lynnwood.

Born June 27, 1917, in Colfax to George and Ethel Sanders, she was raised here and married Lloyd Hickman in 1935. They moved to Spokane and later to Seattle.

She was employed with the Seattle School District for 23 years and was a member of Dr. Sharpie’s Guild at Children’s Hospital in Seattle for 53 years. Mr. Hickman died in 1972, and she later married George Carter. They traveled to many destinations around the world.

Surviving are a daughter, Claudia (Charlie) Young, two grandchildren and three great-grand children.

The family suggests memorials go to Children’s Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.
