Bulldogs book wins in 4-team home opener

Three Bulldog wrestlers booked four for five Tuesday night on the home mats with Pullman, Garfield/Palouse and Freeman wrestlers as guests. The match was the first of three home shows for the Colfax mat team.

Colfax Coach Dennis Gransbery said the Bulldog lineup could go up to eight wrestlers after the Christmas break as more Bulldog recruits log the required practices to get on the roster.

Heavyweight Daython Maltone won his division of the big Potlatch tournament Saturday with a first-round pin of Ty Paul of Moscow.

He compiled a 3-1 run in the division in the Potlatch pod competition format. After tie results in the pod rounds, Maltone advanced to the finals.

Justin King finished with a 1-1 record in the 170 class.

Tuesday in the home meet, Brandon Arneson booked two wins with a third-round pin over Bailey Poitro of Pullman in his first match and a tough 3-1 decision over Braden Aller of Freeman in his second match.

Maltone booked a second round pin on Teigan Glidewell of Freeman, and Justin King booked a split in the 170-pound class.

Lightweight Trapper Askins of Garfield Palouse took two decisive wins. Askins joins Kevin Knauff this year to double the ranks of the Viking wrestlers who are working out with Pullman.
