Cecile Laprise, SP

Sister Cecile Laprise, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 8:18 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph, Spokane, at 92 years of age, after 78 years as a Sister of Providence. A vigil service will be Monday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m., at Mount St. Joseph Chapel, 12 West Ninth Ave., Spokane. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the same chapel, and burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane.

Born March 16, 1919, to Honoré and Marie Laure Morin Laprise, near Lafleche, Sask., she entered the Sisters of Providence Jan., 10, 1943, made her first profession on July 19, 1944, and her final vows July 19, 1947. Her religous name was Sister Mary Laura.

In 1972, she received a certificate in food services management from the Catholic Health Association in St. Louis, Mo.

Her ministry assignments included: Providence Hospital, Wallace, Idaho, cafeteria, 1944-45; Sacred Heart Hospital (now Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital), food service, 1945-50; St. Joseph Academy, Sprague, Wash., domestic duties and dietary, 1950-1964; Mount St. Joseph, Spokane Wash., dietary supervisor, 1964-65; St. Thomas Orphans Home, Great Falls, Mont., dietary supervisor, 1965-66; Columbus Hospital, Great Falls, Mont., dietary supervisor and purchasing, 1966-69; Whitman Community Hospital, Colfax, director of food services, 1969-74; Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, Spokane, 1974-77; director of food services, 1977-90; baking, cake decorating, welcoming committee, retreat team, 1991; Mount St. Joseph, Spokane, religious community services, local community councilor, 1991-99.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Sisters of Providence Retirement Fund, 1801 Lind Avenue SW, #9016, Renton, Wash., 98057-9016.
