Willson wins big

in state rematch

Morgan Willson booked a resounding win last Saturday at the Connell Invitational when she and Sierra Spiker of Oroville crossed paths in the big Connell Invitational. Willson and Spiker, who edged the Colfax senior a year ago in the state XC title run at Pasco, led a field of 99 runners over the hilly Connell course.

Running in extreme heat, Willson clocked an 18:36 on the 5K course. Spiker clocked in at 20:03 for second place.

Tuesday, Willson booked a 20:04 win at the league meet at Northwest Christian on the extra hilly course to break her own record, a 21:46.

Jackson Elfers placed seventh in the boys race at 20:37; Brock Morgan, 12th at 21:59, and Justin Williams, 20th at 24:34.

Tim Cornelius placed third in the NWC junior high race at 10:37; Logan Gingerich was ninth at 12:22; and Mitch Barney was 10th at 12:35; Lauren Claasseen, 21st at 17:10; and Brady Wuesteney, 22nd at 17:33.

Finishers for the boys at Connell were Jackson Elfers, 22nd at 18:35; Daniel Thomas, 152nd at 25:44, and Justin Williams, 153rd at 25:45.

Junior High finishers at Connell included Claassen placed 13th at 8:27 in the girls race, and Zach Williams 13th at 6:46 in the boys race.

Siegel leads SJLW

with eighth at Connell

SJLW’s Heather Siegel placed eighth in the big Connell race Saturday with a time of 22:51 behind the 18:36 win posted by Morgan Willson of Colfax. Other finishers for the Eagles were Jade Porubeck, 43rd at 26:03; Annie Bailey, 50th at 27:07; Taloan Smith, 64th at 28:31, and Alli Rice, 99th at 37:01.

Caleb Rich led the Eagles in the boys race with a 21:56 for 116th behind Waitsburg’s Seth Deal who clocked an amazing 16:51 for the win.

Placings for the LaCrosse contingent in the team included Darcy Stamper, 125th at 22:22, and Justin Wargo, 141st at 23:42.

The Eagles Wednesday were booked to host a SE meet on the St. John Golf Course. Deal was on the guest list, and he was expected to post a fast 5K time on the relatively flat SJ course.

Crawdads to host

Colfax Crawdads, who have booked a 3-3 mark in the Spokane fall Babe Ruth baseball league, will host Lakeside Saturday in a unique fall baseball event at McDonald Field. The Lakeside team will visit for games at 11 and 2 p.m.

Colfax last weekend booked their third split on the road against North Center. They took the opener 8-7 and then sustained an 0-11 shutout in the second game.
