Nighthawk netters advance SE league win string to 6-0

Tekoa/Oakesdale advanced their string of SE match wins to six in the Tuesday night round with a three-game win over a scrappy LW Tigercat squad at Washtucna. The hosts took the ‘hawks to 23-23 in the first game, but the guests bagged the last two points and the next two games.

Win six came on a league night which saw Colton defeat the SJE Eagles in three games on their home court, and Rosalia defeat Garfield/Palouse in a battle that went to the fifth game on the Spartans’ court.

At Washtucna, the line score for the ‘hawks win was 25-23 25-7 and 25-9.

Kaela Dewan hit eight aces for the league leaders, put up 20 assists, and five digs. Cassy Mendoza hit 11 kills and three stuffs for the ‘hawks.

Logan Harder led the Tigercats with 10 kills. Anne Fleming had 12 assists and six digs.

Tekoa/Oakesdale took out Pomeroy 26-24 24-26 25-15 25-13 in the Thursday round for their fifth win.

LACROSSE/WASHTUCNA hosted Tuesday after posting a five-game win over SJE at LaCrosse in the Thursday round. They booked a 2-1 game edge, but the Eagles fought back in game four to lock it at 2-2 and send it into the fifth game.

Line score of the LaCrosse match win was 17-25 25-16 25-15 21-25 and 15-12. Haley Dorman put together a serving run which put the T-cats on top 12-7 in the fifth game; SJE closed it to 14-12 but couldn’t roll it over.

Harder hit 19 kills against the Eagles, and Fleming had 19 assists. Emily Jones, who rapped three kills in the fourth game when the match went 2-2, finished with 12 zaps for the Eagles. Jones also hit five aces, and Morgan Anderson put up 17 assists.

COLTON moved their league mark to 4-1 in the Tuesday round with a three-gamer over the Eagles, 25-19 25-16 and 25-13. Grace Druffel had 14 kills for the ‘cats and Haley Moser tapped 14 assists. Kaitlin Druiffel booked 13 digs in the back court. Paige Vincent hit eight aces.

Back in the lineup for the Eagles, Gretchen Van Lith had eight kills for the Eagles, and Sierra McCanna had 10 assists.

The Wildcats took the home win after dropping Rosalia in three straight in the Thursday round, 25-16 25-12 and 25-20. Druffel had seven kills against the Spartans, and Moser had 12 assists.

Kirsten Paulson led the Spartans with six kills.

Rosalia and Garfield/Palouse booked the epic trophy for Tuesday night’s round when they battled for five games before the Spartans claimed the win. The fifth game went to extra points with the Spartans taking it 16-14. That came after the two clubs battled to a 29-27 in the fourth game.

“It seemed for a while like nobody would get the win,” Spartan Coach Suzanne Holling said.

The Vikings took 25-12 win in the first game, but the Spartans woke up to start the night’s seesaw format with a 25-19 win in game two.

Cassie Thompson finished with 20 kills for the Vikings, and Holly Leendertsen had a league-high 29 assists in the battle. Briann Maley had 13 kills for Rosalia, and M’Kenna Willey had 12 assists.

The Vikes went to Rosalia after defeating Touchet in three games at Palouse in the Thursday round, 25-22 26-24 and 25-21. Thompson hit eight kills in the three-gamer, and Leendertsen had 14 assist. Sarah Wilson hit 11 digs; Thompson and Terrie Taylor each served three aces.
