Willson’s run erased by stake mixup

A strong run by Colfax senior Morgan Willson on her home course Tuesday was erased by a mixup at the turn around stake on the 5K course.

Morgan Willson, center, breaks out to a strong start Tuesday when NE district teams came to Colfax and ran the Colfax Trail along the Palouse River.

Willson, who finished minutes ahead of the pack, turned around at the original site of the stake which had actually been pulled. She was unaware that the turn site on the Colfax trail had been moved a few yards down the trail because the starting line had been changed at the other end.

“She was really disappointed,” Coach Jamie Kinley said. She pointed out Willson, who had built up a big lead at the turn point, assumed the stake had been pulled and actually stopped to replace it. The turn judge was unsuccessful in his attempt to get her attention.
