Obituaries 8/25/11

A service for Charlie Kasdorf, 89, was in Alameda, Calif., Aug. 24, 2011. Friends here are invited to attend his burial Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Colfax Cemetery. He died at his home in Alameda, Calif., last Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.

Born June 17, 1922, he attended business school in Spokane. In the early 1940’s he moved to Seattle where he met and married Jacqueline Logan. They moved to Alameda in 1946. An avid stamp collector, he drove all over the country to attend first day stamp ceremonies and stamp shows. He was an active member of the Bay Area stamp clubs, serving terms as president, treasurer, and editor of club newsletters.Every Memorial Day, he traveled from Alameda to Colfax to place flags in the Colfax Cemetery and meet with former classmates of the Hubbard School.

He is survived by his daughter, Joellen Kasdorf, son-in-law William Fernandes, and daughter Charlene Kasdorf

Shirley Jamison

Shirley Jamison, 85, former resident of Oakesdale and Farmington, died Aug., 15, 2011, in Spokane. In accordance with her request, a service will not be conducted.

Born April 26, 1926, to Ted and Mary Kendall at their home near Oakesdale, she graduated from Oakesdale High School with the class of 1944. She married Larry Tassler Sept. 24, 1946, and they lived at several duty statons while he served in the U.S. Navy. They had two daughters, Patricia and Vickie.

Mr. Tassler died in 1949, and Shirley and her daughters returned to Oakesdale where she worked at the Oakesdale Grange Supply. She and Sam Jamison were married Nov. 25, 1960, and they made their home on his farm in the Farmington area where they had daughter, Candy. After Sam became ill, they moved to Spokane where he died in 1974. Shirley continued to reside in Spokane.

She always had an interest in music and youth and for many years was involved with the Spokane Junior Symphony and served as their manager for a number of years. She was also a 50-year member of the Hope Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Oakesdale. In later years, she traveled and kept busy with the activities of her many grandchildren.

Surviving are her sister, Beverley Estey, Bullhead City, Ariz .; three children: Patricia (Terry) Sparks, Oak Harbor; Vickie Sturdevant, Spokane; Candy Hopkins, Oakesdale; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jim Sparks.

The family requests that remembrances be made in her name to Hospice of Spokane, Hospice House, 367 E 7th Ave, Spokane, 99202.

Philip Randall Dasch

A informal interment for the ashes of Philip Randall Dasch, 87, native of Colfax, will be Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Colfax cemetery. Mr. Dasch died in Beaverton, Ore., July 18, 2011.

Born in Colfax May 8, 1924, to Philip and Emma Randall Dasch, he was a member of the 1942 class of Colfax High School. An early interest in radio electronics led to a career span of 36 years beginning with World War II service in the Army Air Corps, and ending with a NASA position in Mission Control at Houston, Texas.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Richard Lukins of Beaverton, two nieces and a nephew.

Bailey D. Guenthner

Bailey Denise Guenthner, daughter of Jake and Murriah Clifton Guenthner of Healy, Alaska, was stillborn July 28, 2011. Although her family never met her, she was loved by them

Bailey is survived by a twin sister, Riley Lynn; her parents; grandparents Tim and Val Siler of Endicott, Jake Clifton and Bob and Terri Guenthner of Colfax, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
