Obituaries 6/9/11

A mass of Christian burial for Ila Rhea Bowers, 77, will be Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tekoa. Father Jerry Graham will officiate at the service. Rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. at the church. A potluck dinner will follow the services.

Mrs. Bowers died May 21 in Post Falls, Idaho, with her children and several family members by her side.

Born Aug. 3, 1933, at Oakesdale to Harold and Eva Rusch Weatherford, she was raised on the family farm near Sanders, Idaho, with her three brothers. She attended local schools and graduated from Plummer High School in 1952. After graduation, she attended nursing school in Kansas where she met Leo Fuchs. They were married in 1954 in Montana and made their home at Endicott before they moved in 1969 to Worley where they farmed. They were divorced in 1974.

She married Dale Bowers of Moscow, Idaho, in 1975. She and Dale had many wilderness adventures in Alaska and the lower 48, including placer mining and prospecting. She was asked by the University of Alaska in Fairbanks to teach prospecting and mining in Alaska’s outlying areas.

She attended Spokane Community College and Anchorage Community College. She participated in mining/prospecting courses. She later changed her studies to Fine Arts where she excelled in oil painting. She enjoyed painting pictures which she shared with many family and friends.

Dale and Ila moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to retire in 1994. Following Mr. Bowers death, Ila moved to Spokane.

She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Spokane. She was a former member of the Orchid Society and the Lady Jaycees at Endicott.

Survivors include her four children; Terry (Wanda) Fuchs, Worley, Idaho; Kim (Jason) Hix, Lewiston; Mike Fuchs, Spokane, WA and Cheryl (Mark) Boss, Athol, Idaho; two brothers, Willis and Albert Weatherford; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Audrey Vigue Davies

Audrey S. Davies, 92, former long-time resident of Potlatch, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the Aspen Park Healthcare in Moscow where she has resided since February of 2006. In accordance with her wishes, a service was not conducted. She has been cremated.

Born Sept. 21, 1918, at Sandpoint, Idaho, to William and Emily Turcott Vigue, she attended schools in Orofino, and graduated from Orofino High School with the class of 1937.

She married Ernest Davies July 8, 1955, at Pacific Grove, Calif. They operated a hunting lodge at Elk River, Idaho, from 1959 until 1965, and then moved near Princeton, Idaho, in 1974 and then to Potlatch in 1990. Mr. Davies died in 2001. She continued to live at Potlatch until moving to Moscow in 2006.

A member of the Presbyterian Church at Potlatch, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

Survivors are two daughters, Beverly Flores, Potlatch; Donna Berrera, San Luis Obispo, Calif .; one stepson, Timothy Davies, one stepdaughter, Roberta Gooch, Middletown, Rhode Island; one brother, Donald Vigue, Lewiston; two sisters, Opal Anderson, Deary, Idaho; and Jerry Hall, Moscow; and three grandchildren.

Rosie E. Liebe, 85, died May 23, 2011, at her home at the LaDow Court Assisted Living in Garfield. In accordance with her request, services were not conducted.

Born Nov. 2, 1925, at Nevis, Minn. to Joseph and Mary Eva Bloskovich Lepo, she was the fourth of 11 children. She married Phillip H. Liebe Dec. 5, 1970, at Garfield. Mr. Liebe died in 2005.

Rosie was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed crocheting and always had a project going.

Survivors include three sisters, Lorraine Lanterman, Spokane Valley; Joanne Walli, Sprague; Victoria Plunkett, Wenatchee; two brothers, Johnny Lepo, Fort Pierce, Fla .; Joseph Lepo, Everett. She was preceded in death by one son.

Memorials may be given to the Garfield E.M.S.

A memorial gathering for Patricia (Patsie) Silzel, 74, will be Monday, June 13, 2011, at 5 p.m. at the Harvester Restaurant in Spangle. A private family memorial graveside service will be at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa prior to the gathering. Patsie passed away May 29 at Pullman Memorial Hospital in Pullman.

Born Nov. 3, 1936, at Tensed, Idaho to Roy E. and Jayne (Lyden) Baker, she attended schools in Tekoa, and graduated from Tekoa High School with the class of 1954. Following high school, she attended Holy Names Academy in Spokane for the next two years.

She and Jack Silzel were married Oct. 20, 1956. They lived near Oakesdale where Jack farmed and Patsie was a homemaker. They were later divorced. Patsie moved to Spokane in 1997, but returned to Oakesdale in 2009 to be near her daughter. She had been in a Pullman Adult Family Home for the past few months.

She loved reading, yard work and playing cards with the local Bridge Clubs.

Survivors include three daughters, Suzanne Hammer of Oakesdale, Shellie Panzer of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Stephanie Frey of Baraboo, WI; two sisters, Sharon Hotrum of Fairbanks, Alaska and Colleen Thomas of Charlotte, N.C .; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Francisco Roman III

Francisco (Frank) Roman, 68, a resident of Tekoa for the past 18 months, died May 31 at his home in Tekoa. In accordance with his request, a service will not be conducted. Born Dec. 15, 1942, at Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Francisco and Mary Lopez Roman, Jr. He lived in Colorado and attended schools in Pueblo, Colo. He graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo. He had lived most of his life in the Denver - Pueblo, area where he raised his family. He had been married and divorced. Mr. Roman worked as a warehouse manager, a sheet metal worker and a freight handler for several companies in the Denver and Pueblo Colorado area.

He married Dorothy J. Heller in October of 2004 in Pueblo. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Tekoa in 2009 and resided at the Tekoa Retirement Apartments. He enjoyed reading, music, fishing, camping and parenting.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, at the Tekoa home; his mother, Mary Roman, Denver, four children, Frank Roman IV, Diane Ulloa, Eric Roman, and Erin Roman; a sister, Louise Cordova of Denver and several grandchildren.

Gumm rite set

Dean Gumm, 81, a long time Tekoa- Farmington area farmer, died Monday, June 6, at his home in Tekoa following a fall.

A graveside service will be Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Farmington. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 14, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Full obituary will appear next week. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is handling the arrangements.

Mills service set

Helen Virginia Mills, long time St. John resident, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Funeral services will be Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at the St. John United Methodist Church. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. at the St. John Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from 9 to 4 at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax.

Rhodes rite Sat.

The funeral for Shannon Caldwell Rhodes, 69, a member of the 1959 class at Colfax High School who died May 15 in Green Valley, Ariz., will be Sat., June 11, at 1 p.m in the Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center, 405 N. William Street, Post Falls. The center is on the south side of I-90. Mrs. Rhodes, the daughter of Clarence and Doris Caldwell, was raised on a farm in Union Flat. She recently made her home in AZ and the Cd’A areas.
