Bulldog girls aim to break rain jinx against Cards today

Colfax girls booked two heavy wins over Reardan last Wednesday in makeup games to run their Bi-County record to 4-2. Junior pitcher Amy Hickman threw a 12-0 shutout in the first game, and picked up a 20-3 enduro win in the second game.

Coach Terry Eng and the Bulldogs could actually get the first varsity action on the McDonald Park home dirt today, Thursday, when the Waitsburg/Prescott team arrives to make up a pair of games.

The SE league’s Cardinals and Bulldogs were rained out of their non-league game date at McDonald last Tuesday.

Colfax, which has yet to play at home, was also rained out of a Saturday double with Springdale.

In the opener last Wednesday at Reardan, Hickman allowed three hits, walked just three Indians and fanned 11 for the 12-0 shutout over five innings.

Colfax booked 14 hits for the opener.

Their big breakout inning came in the fourth when they scored eight runs. The big hit was a three-run triple by Brooke Webber.

Catcher Rachel Robinson had a 4-4 game at the plate with a double to top the 14 Colfax hits.

Webber finished with a single and triple, and Sam Pearson tagged a three-run double.

“She hit that one just at the right time,” Coach Eng said.

Jordan Sharp and Hickman each paired singles.

Colfax won the second game at Reardan 20-3 with a 17 hit attack.

Hickman struck out four Indians, walked four and allowed just three hits.

Colfax had a 14-3 lead after three innings. They scored seven runs in the first inning with Robinson rapping a two-run single and Hickman a two run double.

Hickman also had a three-run homer. She finished the game 2-2 with five RBIs.

Samantha Pearson also had a two run homer in the game.

Also booking hits for Colfax for a total of 17 were Lauren Moore, double; Brooke Webber, 2 singles; Nyholm and Lyman, each a single and double; Taylor Larson, Robinson, Abby Muir, Sharp, and Ciara Becker.

The girls are also booked to play a pair of league doubles at St. Georges on Saturday and at home against the Davenport Gorillas Tuesday.
