Colfax girls stack 3 wins; eye number-2 district slot

Colfax girls Tuesday night defeated St. George’s 46-25 on the road with another strong floor game to close in on the number-two slot for the upcoming playoffs. The Bulldogs remain in second place with an 11-3 record with two more games left.

Reardan Tuesday dropped Liberty 65-38 to extend their league win string to 14-0. The Indians and Bulldogs have a three-game cushion over the remainder of the pack and figure to remain in the top two slots after the weekend.

Friday Colfax will make the trip to Springdale, and Saturday they will wrap up the home season by hosting Liberty for senior night.

Top finishers in the league race get byes in the first playoff round while the bottom four clubs play an elimination round. At number two the Bulldogs will go up against the survivor of the elimination rounds Feb. 12 at Mead.

The two-week district show will qualify three teams for the regional round, last stop before a shortened B tourney in Spokane.

Colfax Tuesday at St. George’s powered past the Dragons in steals and rebounds to overcome another off night of shooting. The Bulldogs hit 13-78 from the field.

Senior Shaina Simonson led Colfax with 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Saturday at Northwest Christian, the Bulldogs locked up with the Crusaders in a defensive battle that ended with a 32-22 Colfax win. One unique feature of the defensive round was a 0-0 second quarter. Colfax missed seven shots in the blankout.

They had a 21-20 lead after three frames, but booked an 11-point sprint in the last quarter for the 10-point win.

Crusader Danne Dami was the lone player to hit double digits. She did it by hitting four three-point shots. Amelie Bruya topped Colfax with nine.

Friday on the home court, the Bulldogs booked an 80-41 runaway win over the Davenport Gorillas with a 44-plus percent shooting night. Hannah Harazin broke out for 21 points to lead the Bulldogs who had the Gorillas in a 17-point hole at the break.

Miranda Mielke, the Davenport bomber, led all scorers with 22 points, more than half of the G-team total. Mielke, object of a lot of Colfax defensive pressure, hit 9-11 off the toss line.

Simonson again led the Colfax rebounds with 12 snags against the Gorillas. Colfax out-boarded the red club 51-29 Friday.
