Workshop slated to make dresses for Africa

A workshop to make “Little Dresses for Africa” is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Participants will make simple dresses from new or slightly used pillow cases or fabrics. The dresses will be distributed through orphanages in Central Africa. More than 120,000 dresses have already been sent by churches and other groups in the U.S. to Africa through this program.

Goal of the project is to “plant in the hearts of little girls the knowledge that they are worthy,” said Jan Hiller, one of the workshop coordinators. Anyone interested in helping with this mission project can contact Hiller, Connie Shafer or Joye Dillman. Participants are asked to bring sewing machines and basic sewing supplies. Pillow cases, fabric and many notions will be available.

Lunch will be served by the United Methodist Women’s officers.
