Ralph V. Walker

The funeral for Ralph Verdell Walker, 100, long time farmer in Winona, was Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Hinds officiated and vault interment followed at the Colfax Cemetery.

Mr. Walker died Jan. 5, 2011 at his home at Community Pride Senior Living in St. John.

Born Aug. 28, 1910, at Cortez, Colo., to Orsen Wr. and Maude Baker Walker, he moved with his family to Espanola, Wash., where his father ran a dairy. They then moved to the Winona area where they had a small wheat farm.

He met Eileen F. Walker, and they were married Dec. 16, 1933, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They spent a short time in Kellogg, Idaho, before returning to the ranch at Winona.

Ralph and Eileen farmed together until his retirement. Mr. Walker enjoyed farming, making hooked rugs and camping. An avid square dancer, he and his wife were members of several clubs including the Pullman Frolickers and Krazy 8’s of Spokane. He was also a 50-year member of the Washington State Grange.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Walker; a son, Verdell Walker, and a great-grandson, Justin Gering.

Surviving are a son Jerry (Molly) Walker of Endicott, eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Rhonda L. DeVore

A celebration of life for Rhonda L. DeVore, 75, resident of Potlach for the last five years, will be Saturday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m. at the home of her daughter Lori Howard, 1007 Richardson Ave., Lewiston.

Mrs. DeVore died last Thursday morning, Jan. 6, 2011, at her home in Potlatch, Idaho. She will be cremated.

Born April 26, 1935, at Joplin, Mo., to Delphin and Elasta Jarvis Duffield, she attended school at Joplin, and graduated from high school there in 1953. She later attended college. She married Larry Casey Feb. 4, 1954, at Coeur d’Alene, and the couple made their home at Bonner’s Ferry and later at St. Maries. They were later divorced.

Rhonda worked as a waitress and worked in care centers as a Certified Nurse Assistant for several years.

She married William DeVore in 1982 and the couple made their home at Priest River, Idaho, and later at Long Beach. Mr. DeVore died in 2000. She later moved to Spokane and then to Potlatch.

She enjoyed playing bingo, Casino gaming and loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include, two sons, Daniel Casey, Lewiston; David (Bethany) Casey, Princeton; three daughters, Lori (James) Howard, Lewiston; Linda (Bill) Memmer, Forest Grove, Ore .; Lisa Hall, Oregon; two brothers, Michael Duffield, Gilroy, Calif .; Donald Duffield, Fargo, N.D., four sisters, Jeanne Clegg, Smithville, Mo .; Arlene Tillett, Stockton, Calif .; Betty Watari, North Carolina; Sylvia Easton, Oscalo, Mo .; eleven grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Brian Casey.

Arnold Knott

Arnold Franklin Knott, 95, long time Endicott resident, died Dec. 30, 2010, at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax. No public services are planned.

Arnold was born Sept. 19, 1915, to Edward and Della Richmond Knott at Dayton, Wash.

He was the third of six brothers, Harold, Robert, Arnold, George, Gordon and Jim.

He grew up on several farms in the Winona area and attended Winona High School. He attended WSU in Pullman for several years and was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity there. He married Muriel Lilienthal and set up farming on Union Flat where he had a son, Gary.

Following his first marriage, he married Francis Kennedy and she later preceded him in death. He subsequently married Marie Schmidt and she also preceded him in death.

Arnold farmed on Union Flat from 1940-1957. He was then the co-owner of Freddy’s Restaurant and bar in Othello for several years. In later years, he worked for the McGregor Co. as manager of the Endicott plant. He made his home in Endicott since 1960.

He married Betty Bafus in 1973. Arnold enjoyed bird hunting and he was an accomplished trap shooter. He also liked to follow WSU athletics. He was a member of the Endicott Gun Club and the Colfax Elks Lodge.

Betty died in 2004.

Surviving are two sons, Darryl Knott of Yakima and Gary Knott of Silver Springs, Md., and four grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Janis Ficca.
