Evans wins at Pomeroy

Cody Evans of Colfax took the top perch last Wednesday for the 125-pound class in the Pomeroy awards ceremony. Todd Marshall of Potlatch took the second-place medal, and Wyatt Hyer of the host Pirate club took the third-place medal.

Colfax wrestler Cody Evans won the championship medal for the 125-pound class at the Pomeroy wrestling tournament Wednesday. Evans moved down from the 130 class and took the first-place medal with third-round pin of Todd Marshall of Pomeroy in the championship round.

Ben Cochran placed third in the heavyweight class with a first-round pin over Jacob Moore of Heppner, Ore., in the consolation finals. He booked another pin and was pinned by the Nate Sorenson of Kittitas who took the title.

Kevin Nellis placed sixth, and freshman Evan Lord did not place.

Colfax team scored 51 points. Kittitas took the team title at Pomeroy with 187 points. Host Pomeroy was second with 137.

The winter storm last Wednesday knocked three of the 13 registered teams out of the tourney. Colfax was on site at Pomeroy Wednesday morning because they had gone down the previous night to compete in duel competition

Levi Hardy sustained an injury to a bicep in dual meet competition in the 160 class Tuesday night and could be out of competition for the season. Hardy was battling to fight off a cradle hold by Tory Knebel, eventual winner in the 160 class the next day.

Next action for Colfax wrestlers will be at the Warden tournament Saturday.

St. John/Endicott wrestlers, who were snowed out of the Pomeroy trip, are hoping to get into the Warden tourney. The Eagles will also wrestle next Thursday at Davenport.
