Hooper resident joins sub cruise

Hooper

Conly Merritt traveled to Ketchikan, Alaska, Dec. 21 where he was able to go on a “Tiger Cruise” aboard the submarine, USS Ohio. His son, Thane Merritt, serves as a master chief on the Ohio’s crew.

Accompanying Conly was Thane’s son, Ben Merritt, of Bremerton. They boarded the USS Ohio Dec. 22 out of Ketchikan and arrived in Bangor, Wash., on Dec. 26. Conly said it was a “once in a lifetime” experience.

Richard, Tracy and Bryce Bennett of St. John joined Betty Merritt and her mother, Eleanor Iten, who is visiting from Yreka, Calif., for Christmas, while Conly was out of town.

Keith and Carla Danielson celebrated Christmas with children, Tim and Erin Mock, and their daughters Ali, Jill and Kate from Vancouver; Megan Mock from Phoenix, and Andy Mock of Spokane.
