Colton, SJE Eagles girls big launch in SE hoops

Colton Wildcats, the defending 1B champs, and the SJE Eagles each booked two league wins over the weekend for a solid start in the brand new league race. The Wildcats, who lost just one senior off last year’s title team, hammered Pomeroy, the 1B newcomer, with a 40 point win Friday night at Colton and then crunched a young LaCrosse/Washtucna team in the Saturday round at LaCrosse.

Colton, which dropped Asotin 72-20 in a non-leaguer Tuesday on the river, will play two home dates this weekend with Touchet arriving Friday and Tekoa/Oakesdale Saturday.

The SJE Eagles, fifth place finishers last year, started their league run with a 50-39 runaway win over Tekoa/Oakesdale in a game Friday night at St. John.

The Eagles led by just four points at the half, 29-25, but they pulled away from the Nighthawks in the third quarter. Alli Winters, a senior this year, laced 23 points against the ‘hawks in the home win. The Nighthawks were led by Kimberlee Marston with 13 and Alexandria Overton with 12.

St. John/Endicott in the Saturday round posted a 45-32 win over Touchet, another league newcomer in the all SE format. Winters hit 12 and Emily Kucklich hit 10.

The Eagles Tuesday traveled to Odessa for a non-leaguer and posted a big 52-39 win over the new combo club.

Tekoa/Oakesdale bounced back to peg a 1-1 start in the league’s first weekend of action with a 39-30 win over the Garfield/Palouse Vikings at Tekoa. Overton dropped 19 points to lead the ‘hawks.

Rosalia girls also booked a 1-1 over the first league weekend in two home games. They dropped Touchet 43-14 Friday, but bowed to Pomeroy 36-29 in the Saturday round.

Haylee Koller put down 14 points for the Pirates first win in the expanded SE. The Pirates were 3-1 overall after the Saturday round.

Rosalia Friday will make the short trip down to Oakesdale to play their Nighthawk neighbors in the third league round.

Tuesday night they dropped the LRS Broncs 48-38 on a non-leaguer, also at Rosalia, with Briann Maley hitting 22.

Garfield/Palouse girls Tuesday also advanced to 1-1 when they defeated LaCrosse/Washtucna 42-34 in a league round at Washtucna with Kaycie Adair and Madisyn Woltering each hitting 11. Taylor Burke hit 15 for the Tigercats.

The Vikings will take a shot at the 2-0 Eagles Friday night when the SJE teams make a league stop at Palouse.
