Bulldog girls look to improve game

After being dropped for a 20-point loss at Freeman Friday, Colfax girls will try to take their game up a notch Friday when the Lakeside Eagles, another non-league foe from the A ranks, arrives in town.

Colfax Coach Corey Baerlocher said the 50-30 loss at Freeman was a jolt. The Bulldogs had a tough time keeping control of the ball and getting off shots.

Colfax booked 19 turnovers in the first half and launched just 13 shots. The Bulldogs hit just 10 field goals for the game and shot under 26 percent.

“It’s tough to compete when you’re putting up those numbers. We just couldn’t convert the shot opportunities,” Baerlocher said.

Freeman shot in the 35 percent range and dropped 19 field goals.

Freeman was led by Alyssa Maine who finished with 19. She hit 10 in the third quarter when the Bulldogs again hit a string of turnovers.

Lakeside Eagles moved their record to 3-1 Friday with a 54-15 thumping of St. Georges with Taylor Flemming hitting 12. Baerlocher also expects the Eagles will be led by veteran Lexie Zappoine, now a senior.

After the Eagles visit Friday, the Bulldogs will travel north to play Davenport. The Gorillas dropped Liberty 54-41 in Saturday Bi-County action with Miranda Mielke hitting 26.

Colfax will make the trip to Kettle Falls for another league round Monday.

Other Bi-County scores in the Saturday round were Reardan 57-Lind/Ritzville/Sprague 24 and Kettle Falls 63-Springdale 29.
