Colfax caregiver support group to meet Dec. 7

The Colfax Caregiver Support Group will meet Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the private dining room at The Courtyard in Colfax. The group is designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for those providing care for individuals with a variety of illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s or other dementias, physical illness or mental disabilities.

Participants are able to receive support and education, share experiences with others in similar situations in a supportive and confidential environment. There is no charge.

Palouse Round Table craft sale set for Dec. 4

Palouse Round Table craft sale will be Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 to 2 in the Palouse Federated Church on Bridge Street. In addition to the craft offerings, a homemade lasagna lunch will be served beginning at noon. Pie and coffee will be served all day.

Raffle tickets will also be on sale. Prizes include a quilt, a basket of goodies and a $100 certificate for purchases at Palouse Market.

Proceeds will go for scholarships and community projects.

Bank Left Gallery plans Yule open house

“Cloaked in Wonder,” the sixth annual Christmas open house, concert and holiday dinner at Bank Left Gallery in Palouse will be Saturday, Dec. 4, 1 to 8 p.m. The gallery will be filled with handmade Christmas ornaments, cards, jewelry, paintings and sculptures. Featured artists will include Karen Bousman, Nelson Duran, Linda Rasmussen, Prisha Brown, Rhea Giffin and others.

Musical guests include pianist Caroline Germain and vocalist Nancy Grunewald.

Advent Organ series

The 2010 Advent Organ recital series, featuring seasonal music performed by members of the American Guild of Organists will be Dec. 8 at Pullman Presbyterian Church, 1630 NE Stadium Way, and Dec. 15 at First Presbyterian Church, 405 S. Van Buren, Moscow.

K-club pancake feed

The annual Pullman Kiwabus Club pancake breakfast and silent auction will be Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Lincoln Middle School, 315 SE Crestview, from 6:30 a.m. until noon. All the proceeds stay in Pullman to support and assist kids.

Guitarist at Dahmen

Spokane guitarist Doug Porter will play contemporary, jazz and blues originals and standards Saturday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. Admission will be $7.

Clubs & Youth Groups

River’s Edge 4H

Colfax River’s Edge 4H club met Nov. 12 for a woodworking day. Most members were present and each completed a project for the fair. Some club members met Nov. 10 to discuss sewing projects for the year.

Club members raked leaves for two Saturday, Nov. 13 and 20, to raise funds. Nine yards were raked on the first Saturday and several more on the second.

Next meeting will be in January.

Arebalo son born

A boy, Anthony Rodolfo, was born Nov. 26, 2010, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Amanda and Rodolfo Arebalo. Maternal grandparents are Roy and Debbie Senter, Pullman. Paternal grandparents are Rodolfo and Silvia Arebalo. Weighing seven pounds, 11 ounces at birth, the baby joins siblings, Riley and Anabelle.

Frei daughter born

A girl, Emma Veronica, was born Nov. 26, 2010, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Lisa and Travis Frei. Maternal grandparents are Dick and Helen Appel, Dusty. Paternal grandparents are Marilyn Frei, Spokane, and the late Leroy Frei. Weighing eight pounds, 11 ounces at birth, the baby joins sisters, Miriam and Rachel.

On Campus

ART

University of Idaho Pritchard Gallery will feature the work of Kota Ezawa until Dec. 5. The Bay area artist will present projected works in film, slide, and digital animations as well as lightbox watercolor. Pritchard gallery hours are 10 to 8 Tuesday through Saturday and 10 to 6 on Sundays.

WSU will present a world-class exhibition, “Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art: from the Collection of Margaret Levi and Robert Kaplan, until Dec. 11.

The Levi-Kaplan Collection was built over many years of extensive travel and study. The collectors have sought out the best work by Aboriginal artists to reveal the diversity, creativity and aesthetic power of one of the most exciting art movements in the world today.

Gallery hours are Monday – Saturday, 10 to 4 p.m. (open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays).

MUSIC

WSU School of Music will present a holiday concert at 8 p.m. today, Dec. 2, in Bryan Hall Theatre with the WSU Madrigal/Chamber Singers, University Singers, Concert Choir and Symphony Orchestra. Concluding the concert will be a joint performance by all of the students in these ensembles for a “Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas” on the popular song set to various musical styles.

Tickets will be available at the door at $10 general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and free for children 12 and under. All proceeds go to the ensembles for music and tour costs.

Whitman County Library sadly acknowledges the passing of longtime library employee and bookmobile driver Marie Doak. She retired last winter after serving the library and community for 30 years.

John Aune was honored as library supporter of the month during the November meeting of the Library Board of Trustees in the St. John Library. Aune will have served 14 years on the library board at the conclusion of his second term next year. Over the years, John and his wife Jane have been generous friends of the library and avid library users.

A full day of festivities is planned for the Dec. 2 Colfax Christmas Celebration. “Jingle All The Way” Preschool programs run from 10:10 – 11:30 a.m. Santa and children’s crafts happen from 3-5:30, the music of John Elwood and Sally Burkhart is from 3:30-5:30. Two festive holiday trees courtesy of Pack Troop 595 and Donna Hanson will be on display and refreshments will be served compliments of the Friends of the Library. Colfax Library festivities end at 5:30 to allow people to attend the 6 p.m. lighted parade and fireworks extravaganza.

Whitman County Library Board of Trustees have rescheduled their December meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. in the Colfax Library.
