Colfax begins state quest after wrapping NE string

Colfax netters start their quest for another run at the state title tonight in a home round of the NE qualifications. Springdale and St. George’s play an elim match at 5 p.m. tonight in the Colfax gym and the winner will go up against Colfax.

Qualifiers out of tonight’s rounds will head for Reardan Saturday where matches in both gyms will determine which three teams advance to Yakima next week. Northwest Christian, number two league finisher, hosts the other first-round elims tonight.

The title match for NE is booked for 4 p.m. in the main gym at Reardan Saturday. Both teams get a state ticket. The final consolation for the third NE state ticket will be at 6 p.m.

Colfax finished out the league run at 6-0 Saturday in the home gym with two three-game wins for homecoming. They dropped Davenport 25-13 25-17 and 25-11, and then dropped last-place St. George’s 25-8 25-9 and 25-4.

Colfax had a strong game at the net and both foes Saturday had trouble handling the Colfax serves.

Amelie Bruya had 38 assists against the Gorillas. Shaina Simonson had 10 kills and three blocks, and Nicole Sheer had 13 kills.

Against the Dragons, senior Maggee Cochran pegged 18 of 19 serves and hit five aces. Cochran served up the first 13 points in game three against the Dragons.

Both of the Saturday guests will battle out of the bottom of the NE brackets in the rounds tonight.

Colfax tonight begins a quest for their 18th straight entry on the state volleyball playoffs with most of their entries in the state A division.
