Wildcats will bring next test to SJE Eagles league string

St. John/Endicott Eagles, who posted a strong win last Friday at LaCrosse, will face a tough challenge Friday when they host second-place Colton in the SE Eights.

The Wildcats will arrive with a 3-1 league mark after posting an aerial show for a big win against Sunnyside Christian last week at Granger.

SE EIGHTS

St. John/End. 4-0 6-1 334-190

Colton 3-1 4-4 361-230

Garfield/Pal. 2-2 3-4 202-190

Pomeroy 2-2 3-5 382-282

Touchet 2-3 4-3 225-210

LaX /Wa. 2-3 3-5 254-334

Sun. Christian 0-4 1-5 138-293

A win by SJE over the Wildcats Friday would give them a lock on the SE Eights’ top slot a week before the start of playoff rounds.

Their last league test will be a visit from Pomeroy which was dropped 42-70 by the Liberty Christian Patriots in a non-leaguer Friday.

SJE Coach Bob Clements said defending the Wildcats’ passing attack will be the key assignment for the Eagles Friday. He credits Colton QB Josh Straughan and his receivers with launching a strong passing game.

“We’re going to have to respect their passing offense,” Clement commented. He added a lot will depend on the player matchups during the game.

The Eagles Friday at LaCrosse posted a 60-22 win after kicking into gear for 24 points in the second quarter.

The Tigercats, who took to the field without QB Jake Aune, posted a 8-6 lead in the first quarter, but couldn’t hold off the SJE offense for the rest of the half.

“We’re playing good, hard football right now, “ Clements said.

Cole McCanna rolled up 302 yards on 16 carries. He scored four TDs rushing and one more on a passing play. Eagle QB Kyle Raynor threw for three TDs with two of them to Ben Harrison. He finished 15-24 for 291 yards. Evan Raynor had eight catches for 56 yards

LaCrosse QB Aune missed the game because of a shoulder injury he sustained in a fall at school. Coach Jeff Nelson Tuesday said they’re not sure when Aune will return to the lineup.

“That changed our entire game plan,” Nelson noted.

Sawyer Hochstetler, who has advanced the Tigercat running game during the season, became the T-cats top offensive weapon, and he covered 100 yards in 27 carries. Sam Harder was moved into the QB slot where he had one quarter of experience. The Tigercats, who have been hitting nearly 300 air yards per game, finished with 60 total against the Eagles.

LaCrosse Washtucna had a big test Friday when they rolled to Hanford to face the LC Patriots.

COLTON Friday let it fly at Granger in a 62-32 derby win over Sunnyside Christian. The Wildcats led 20-6 after the first quarter and 32-14 at the half.

They rolled up more than 500 yards against the Knights with Josh Straughan throwing 27-38 for 369 yards. He hit for seven Wildcats TDs.

Steven Eacher had 12 catches for 183 years, and Taylor Spencer had eight for 102.

Matt Becker was credited with 13 tackles and Jake Reidner had eight stops.

After the Friday trip to St. John, the Wildcats will end the league season by hosting the Garfield Palouse.

GARFIELD/PALOUSE Friday will host the last-place Sunnyside Christian team after they sustained a 38-34 last minute loss in a Saturday game at Touchet. A win this week would keep the Vikings in contention in the middle of the pack for one of three SE Eights playoff slots.

The two clubs traded scores with Touchet taking a 32-26 lead into the last quarter.

Viking QB Anthony Floyd scored on a plunger in the fourth quarter and JB Lange put the Vikings on top with a two-point conversion.

The Indians recovered the lead on a 53-yard passing play from Matt Kates to Eric Hines in the last 1:15 of the game to pull out Touchet’s second win in the league.

Floyd, who booked another rushing TD and threw TD passes to Wyatt Mitchell for 33 and 21 yards and one to Riley Hodges for five yards, finished five for nine passing with 91 yards.

Hodges finished with a 23-127 rushing mark, and Lange finished 32-117. Jake Hodenfield, who scored three of the Indians’ TDs, booked a 9-158 day rushing and 6-14-184 passing.
