Colfax aims to wrap string in double home net show

Coach Sue Doering and the Colfax volleyball crew will host Davenport and St. George’s in a double home meet Saturday. Now 6-0 in the league run, the Bulldogs will aim at wrapping up a NE string before the league starts state qualification rounds next week.

Northwest Christian ranks number two in the NE with just one loss, to the Bulldogs. Reardan is currently in the third place with two losses.

Saturday’s program will start with jayvee and C squad action at 10.

The Bulldog varsity will face Davenport at about 11:30 and then end the day against St. George’s.

The game day will also include recognition for team seniors Brooke Webber, Christa Nyholm, Maggee Cochran, and Shaina Simonson.

Colfax Saturday rolled to Reardan and defeated the third-place chiefs in a four-game battle. They then downed Mary Walker of Springdale in three straight.

Doering said the Bulldogs against Reardan posted a strong serving match with solid defense for the four-game win. Line score was 25-19 24-11 25-27 and 25-11.

Colfax served 89-98 against Reardan

The Bulldog coach credited the defense with digging up the chiefs’ shots and passing proficiently to setter Amelie Bruya who was competing after coming off the sick list.

Simonson and Nicole Sheer each in strong games at the net with Sheer hitting 14 kills and Simonson 13. Lauren Moore had nine kills off 16 attempts with one error.

The win over Mary Walker went down 25-7 25-6 and 25-8.

Bruya served Colfax to 8-0 in the first game and came back in the rotation to serve the last seven. She finished with 16-16 off the line and eight aces. The coach pulled Bruya out for a rest and a little more recovery time at the end of the match.

Maggee Cochran served nine straight in the second game. She finished with 19-19 with eight assists after she moved into the lineup to relieve Bruya.
