Fatality on river road

An accident on Highway 193 across the river from Clarkston early Sunday morning, July 25, took the life of Curtis D. Fleming, 24, Clarkston. A passenger in the 1998 Ford Mustang sustained burns and rib injuries.

Also, two people in a car behind the Mustang sustained injuries when that car went off the highway and struck an embankment.

According to the Washington State Patrol report, Fleming lost control of the Mustang after passing another vehicle. The car went onto the shoulder and then slid across the highway when Fleming overcorrected. It struck a dirt embankment, became airborne and caught fire after it landed on its wheels.

Thomas Warren, 23, Mill Creek, Wash., a passenger was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Lewiston.

Coby R. Brown, 26, sustained shoulder abrasions and Melissa Maushak, 25, sustained forehead and shoulder abrasions when Brown lost control of a 1995 Honda Prelude after it was passed by the Mustang driven by Fleming. Brown drifted to the right after seeing the Mustang crash. He also overcorrected and the Prelude struck an embankment. Both Clarkston residents, they were treated at St. Joseph and released.
