Novice swim teams launch season

Swimmers in the county novice league are slated to launch their season Tuesday. The league again will have eight teams in action with Pullman, the newcomers last year, back for another season.

First action next Tuesday will see Colfax, Dayton and Oakesdale teams at Pullman, and Garfield/Palouse and Pomeroy at Endicott with St. John.

Thursday, Colfax and Pullman will go to Palouse, and Dayton, SJE and Oakesdale will roll to Pomeroy.

Bobbi Reynolds returns as head coach for the Colfax club with Jolene Jacobs back as her assistant.

Colfax has more than 70 swimmers hitting the pool for practice sessions each morning at 8:30. The Colfax coaches have been assisted by a group of pool grads who are volunteering their time.

New swimmers and youngsters who have moved into Colfax have expanded the ranks for the Colfax strokers.

The big final meet of the year has been booked for Aug. 7 at the Colfax pool.

Shelley Slaybaugh is back as the head of her championship Pomeroy team, and they can be expected to make a tough defense of their title.

Other coaches around the circuit are Rosy Nichodom at Dayton, Rachel Witthuhn and Anna Iverson at Palouse, Chelsie Chappell at Oakesdale, Brady White and Jessica Rock at Pullman, Samantha Bammes and Jen Dawson at St. John and Carmen Lust at Endicott.
