Bulldogs will test Davenport

Colfax senior Brittney Burke makes a stop out of the shortstop slot Wednesday in the first game against Reardan at McDonald Park.

Colfax softball girls, who picked up four more wins this week, will travel to Davenport Saturday to test a Gorilla team which has rolled up an 8-0 record to date this year. The Bulldogs will hit the road after advancing their record to 9-1 with two big wins over Almira-Coulee-Hartline and two close battles with Reardan in a makeup round Wednesday.

First-year Coach James Bledsoe said the Bulldogs this week learned to mix in a small ball attack with their power game and plan to put both to work when they challenge the Gorillas Saturday.

Saturday Colfax defeated ACH 4-1 and 10-3 with Amy Hickman pitching both games. She held ACH to one in the first game and fanned 11 batters.

Brittney Burke doubled to cap a five-hit Colfax offense. Christa Nyholm, Brooke Webber, Kayleigh Maltone and Samantha Pearson each rapped a single in a game which saw the Bulldog offense switch to the small ball mode.

Colfax had nine hits for a 10-3 win in the second with Hickman fanning 10 and allowing five hits. Daneille Herne and Maltone each tagged a triple and Webber and Brooke Waldo paired singles. Hickman, Burke and Nyholm singled.

Wednesday, the Bulldogs booked a 9-1 win over Reardan in the first game of a makeup doubleheader, and scratched out a 2-0 win in the second game.

Reardan pegged a 1-0 lead after three innings in the first game, but the Bulldogs erupted with five runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Lauren Moore started for Colfax and Hickman relieved her in the third inning and shut down the Indians’ bats.

Hickman remained in the pitching circle for Colfax in the second game and fanned seven Reardan batters for the 2-0 win. She gave up one hit, a double in the third inning.

Colfax scored their first run in the second inning when Nyholm led off with a single and scored on a passed ball. Webber walked and stole second in the sixth inning in front of a big RBI double by Burke.
