Tracksters collect wins at RC invitational

Garfield/Palouse girls placed fifth among 19 teams with 49 points and SJE-LW girls placed 10th with 31.5 points in the big Ron Vanderholm Invitational at Royal City Saturday. Connell girls topped the team score with 129 points

On the boys side, SJE-LW booked 40 points to place sixth behind the 118 win posted by Kennewick. Garfield/Palouse finished in eighth with 29 points.

For the Viking girls, Annie Leendertsen easily won the 400 with a 65:39. Leendertsen is now ranked seventh in the state 2B for the 400. She also placed sixth in the 100 and sixth in the high jump.

Sophomore Emma Akin placed second in the triple jump with a 30-9. Akin also placed fourth in the 100 and 200. Sophomore Addy Hamilton placed fourth in the 100 hurdles with a 20.6, and fourth in the pole vault. Freshman Cassie Thompson placed fourth in the 3200.

Viking Chad Redman won the 300 hurdles with a PR time of 42.81 and is now ranked second in the state 2B. Redman also placed second in the 110 hurdles.

Sophomore Jeff Kent placed fourth in the 100, sixth in the 200 and in the 400.

SJE’s Warren Miller won the high jump at 6-2 and placed second in the long jump at 19-7.25. Kaleb Simon placed fifth in the triple jump at 37-10.

Jacob Blankenship, Derek Nelson, Dylan Schmick and Brad Riehle placed fifth in the 4 X 400 relay with a 3:50.11 Schmick also placed seventh in the 400.

The SJE-LW relay team of Della Fleming, Erin Bailey, Jessica Hardy and Annie Fleming topped the B class finishes in short relays with a fifth in the 4 X 100 at 58.14 and third in the 200 at 2:03.6.

Kaylea Newton of SJE booked a third in the 1600, and Megan Gfeller placed fifth in the 3200 at 14:52.9, sixth in the 300 hurdles at 50.84, and fifth in the triple jump at 28-10.5 Fleming pegged a fourth in the javelin with a 95-5.
