County BB teams out-flank rain clouds

County baseball teams came out from under the clouds Tuesday with a few game sites changed to get games in the books. Game sites were switched from Tekoa to LaCrosse and Endicott to Pomeroy to find turf dry enough to play.

ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT Tuesday posted two big wins at Pomeroy, 22-6 and 16-0 to advance their record to 6-1. In the opener, the Eagles laced 15 hits. They led 11-0 after four innings, but the Bucs came back to score four in the fifth to keep the game going. Eleven more SJE runs in the sixth ended it.

Dallas Schluneger and JC West pitched the win for the Eagles. SJE had 16 hits with Cole McCann, West, Kyle Raynor, and Evan Raynor each getting two. Ben Harrison tripled and McCanna and Van Lith doubled.

Bryce Bennett allowed just two hits in hurling the 16-0 shutout. The Eagles had 16 hits with Harrison tagging another triple and Van Lith and West hitting doubles.

Saturday Mason Van Lith threw a no hitter for a 13-0 shutout over the young LaCrosse/Washtucna/ Kaloutus team. The Eagles stacked 18 hits with Van Lith pegging two doubles.

In the second game, the Eagles took a 25-7 win. The Tigercats ripped seven early runs with Bryce Bennett and JC West booking a rough start for the Eagles, but Dallas Schluneger went to the mound and shut LWK down.

The Eagles had 13 hits in the second game.

Gary Marmes had the start for the T-cats.

TEKOA/OAKESDALE Tuesday battled to a 10-8 win over LWK after fighting off a rally by the Tigercats.

The ‘hawks posted an 8-0 lead, before the T-cats came back to tie it at 8-8 with a six-run charge in the sixth.

Zach St. John and DJ Brown tagged the RBI hits for TOR in the bottom of the sixth to bail it out.

Will Dedic closed out the last inning to take the win after St. John pitched the first six frame.

Saturday, TOR split a two-game set with Asotin at Tekoa. The hosts won the opener 4-3, and Asotin took the second game 12-11.

Jackson Webb of the Panthers and Brandon Hovde locked up in a pitching battle in the first game. Hovde had the hero hit when he rapped one off the fence with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. He also had a two-run hit in the first inning and Dedic pegged a solo homer in the fifth.

Hovde held Asotin to three hits and Flash Hodges finished the last inning for TOR.

In the second game, Asotin jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Dedic tagged a three-run homer in the third inning to close it up. The hosts then scored six more to peg a 9-4 lead, but Asotin charged for seven runs in the top of the seventh with Dusty Lyons stroking a two-out grand slam.

TOR came back in the bottom of the last inning to load up the bases with one out, but they couldn’t collect, and the Panthers departed with a one-run win.

Wednesday TOR, now 6-2, was booked to play a non-leaguer at Liberty.

COLTON Friday shut out Pomeroy twice, 12-0 and 24-0. Taylor Spence held the Pirates to just one hit in the first game while the Wildcats rolled up nine hits with two each from Josh Straughan, Andre Tietjen, Nate Jacobs and Matt Decker.

Straughan also allowed just one hit in the second game while the ‘cats stacked 19 hits off three Pirate pitchers. Straughan homered and doubled in the second game and Bernie Druffel tagged a triple.

Tuesday, the ‘cats ran into tougher action with Orofino pegging an 11-1 win. The Wildcats had just three hits.

Holdan Druffel started for Colton, and Chase Druffel relieved him in the third inning.
