Tekoa plans outdoor market

February 11, 2010

Plans are underway for a new outdoor market in Tekoa, the “First Saturday Outdoor Market.”

It will be on the corner of Crosby and Warren on the first Saturday of each month, starting in May and continuing through September at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Committee members are Sandy Dehan, Teresa Hoke-House, Teresa Raines, Wendy Sienknecht and Eileen Soldwedel.

They are seeking vendors selling baked goods, bedding plants, fresh eggs, homemade crafts, produce, seeds and more.

Tekoa for several years operated a farmer’s market at the flathouse on N. Crosby and later at the former city shop.

Tekoa businesses are preparing for Valentine’s Day with special events and dinners. The Jaycee Club plans a Valentine Dance with DJ Vick Vegas starting at 7 p.m.

Comforts of Home is closing the screen door to their home business Feb. 28. Owner Wendy Sienknecht plans to continue to sponsor bus tours.

This summer’s trip will be to the outdoor quilt show in Eureka, Mont., with a night’s stay in Whitefish, Aug. 7 - 8.

Quilt and antique shops will be visited enroute. She will continue to sell at local country markets and return to hand quilting for hire.

A new business has opened at the Brotherton Building on Ramsey Street. Hairstylist Sally Law calls her shop, Sal’s Salon. Sally has been in the hair salon business for over 12 years. She is also the stylist for Tekoa’s Care Center patrons.
