Janet Bowman, Hollie, Tommie Sue and Bonnie Swannack attended the Palouse Empire Fair Sunday afternoon. Bonnie had nine entries consisting of quilts and small quilted items and she received nine blue ribbons.

Bonnie worked in the quilters booth at the Spokane Fair Friday and will go to Moscow to judge in the Latah County Fair next Thursday.

Carmen Swannack won five trophies at the Palouse Empire Fair. One for best of show with her goat, the second in intermediate judging, third, fourth and fifth in the Skillathon in pigs, sheep and goats. The Skillathon is a test in each category about the physical makeup of the animals. Lea Swannack won best of show with her goat from South Africa.

Owen Swannack won a blue ribbon for his goat, and he and the goat won the obstacle course event.

Linda and Denny O’Keefe drove to Walla Walla one day last week to attend the wedding of Steve Michael, a friend from Ephrata. The O’Keefes were at the Palouse Empire Fair watching their granddaughter, Clara O’Keefe, with her entries of a sheep and a goat. Clara won Grand Champion ribbon with her sheep in fitting and showing and a first place ribbon with her rabbit. In the Ladies Lead competition, Clara and her mom sewed a jacket made from 100 percent wool. Clara wore the jacket with a long wool skirt while she walked around the ring leading the lamb.

Pete Swannack reports he is 89 percent over the injuries received in a farm accident in early August. He broke three ribs and punctured his lung. He is back on the tractor and seeding the fall crop.

Art Swannack went to California on Friday as representative of the 8th district of the American Sheep Growers. He returned on Sunday.
