    Two NWC veteran runners took wins at the Colfax cross-country race Tuesday on the Colfax trail. Anna Henry, who tracked Morgan Willson in league races last year, won the girls race at 21:03, and Steven Olds took another Crusader win at 17:43 over the course which follows the former Great Northern railroad route along the Palouse River. Jackson Elfers of the host Bulldogs placed third for the Bulldogs and Brock Morgan placed 18th at 20:08.     SJE girls won an SE race last Wednesday on the Big Cross course at Pasco with Heather Siegel again taking the girls race at 21:15, 37 seconds ahead of Victoria Nunez of TCP. The Eagles rolled out a team score of 20 with Jordan Porubek 3rd at 21:59, Shania Bailey 4th at 22:27, Sammie Bailey 5th at 22:35, Jade Porubeck 6th at 23:31 and Annie Bailey 15th at 25:22. Luke Bailey finsihed 17th for the Eagle boys at 20:22 behind the 17:01 win by Seth Deal of Waitsburg/ Prescott.     Colfax volleyball players ran a string of eight game wins over four matches Saturday at Okanogan to defend the title they won on the same trip north last year. The Bulldogs swept their pool foes in two games each and then went up against Zillah, the number-one team from the opposite pool, to decide the tourney title. The Bulldogs will travel to Moscow on a 2-0 record after a 56-32 win over the talented group of Viking sophomores Friday at Schmuck park.     THURSDAY A Swedish man jumped in to subway tracks after a man who fell off the platform and was knocked unconscious as his head hits the tracks, only to grab the fallen man’s valuables and climb back on the platform leaving the victim on the track.     The 30th annual Palouse Days car show attracted 239 entrants to the Palouse Park Saturday. One of the crowd favorites was the Stealth creation (top) by Bob Gifford of Spokane. Trophies which went to the show winners awaited in the picnic shelter (center). The 1927 Model A touring car entered by Bill and Dianna Barr of Spokane was another crowd favorite (bottom).     Guy Williams will chair his last meeting of Whitman County’s planning commission next month, if the panel can field a quorum, that is. Williams is leaving the local zoning board after more than 15 years as a member. The volunteer commission sets land use policy for the county.     Spending is holding true to plan for Whitman County’s 2012 budget while county leaders try to erase a $806,200 projected deficit for next year. David Ledbetter, county financial administrator, told county officials during Monday’s commissioner meeting that the $13.5 million spending plan for the county is well over anticipated revenues. “That’s where we stand right now,” said Ledbetter.     Fire crews from Garfield, Palouse, Colfax, Steptoe and Albion responded Saturday to a barn fire just south of Elberton. The barn was located on the Draper-Brown Road approach into Elberton. The vintage barn was engulfed in flames when the first fire crew, from Garfield, arrived at the scene, Chief Chris McCully said.     With the click of a mouse, electricity will begin coming off Naff Ridge this week, as the first string of turbines begin spinning at the Palouse Wind farm.     Objections by some Colfax residents to the posting of WSU flags along Main Street surfaced during the final minutes of a long Colfax city agenda Monday night when Councilman Donald Henderson put a motion on the table to fly the US flag every day of the year, 24 hours a day.
