    The Whitman County Summer Swim League got off to a warm start Tuesday night at Colfax Municipal Pool. In a four-team meet, Pomeroy won in combined scores, posting 564 points while St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse (S.E.L.) took second with 330.5 and Colfax finished third (202.5).     The sixth annual Peter Zornes Memorial Golf tournament was Saturday, June 22, at the Colfax Golf Club. The tournament, which benefits the Peter A. Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship at Washington State University, drew more than 50 golfers from as far away as Boise and Portland.     The city of Palouse is set to consider what to rename a street in the next few weeks. Right now, Palouse Cove Road carries the same name in both the city and the county, which was causing confusion for deliveries and potential problems with emergency services.     Emergency planners are forming a group to help victims of disasters. Robin Cocking, Whitman County Emergency Management Program Analyst, said the first meeting to form the group was June 20. “Should we have an incident in Whitman County, it’s best to be organized,” she said.     Plans for the Concrete River Festival later this month are rolling along, but a second festival in Colfax scheduled in October has been canceled.     Youngsters from the Colfax and Pullman area, ages 7 through 12, are invited to register for the upcoming Introduction to Robotics 4H Camp July 8 to 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Community Education and Training Center in Colfax, at 123 N.     Paving on the Colfax Airport Road project is now targeted for late July or early August, Public Works Director Mark Storey told county commissioners Monday. He said the contractor has made up for some of the time loss sustained during the run of wet weather in June. Top grading of the west end of the project, from Highway 26 to the Duncan Springs Road intersection has been completed, and sub grading for the balance of the road to the Almota Road on the west side has almost been finished.     The Palouse Scenic Byway Committee June 26 met at the Uniontown Deli and reviewed information which will be presented in kiosks for each community. Committee member Tim Myers suggested that members read the information and make corrections as needed.     A judgment for $507,129 was awarded Friday to Megan Mitchell of Wenatchee by Superior Court Judge David Frazier. The judgment followed a verdict reached June 19 after hearing an eight-day trial. The judgment motion was presented by Thomas O’Connell, Wenatchee attorney who filed the damage suit on behalf of Mitchell against Theta Xi fraternity in August of 2011.
