    The due date for entries for the 2013 H’Art of Palouse banner painting competition has been extended to March 15, according to Colfax Arts Council President Bill Reynolds. The commission decided the number of entries was a little too low for a good competition and is giving artists some additional time. “We definitely want to see a few more youth entries,” Reynolds said. “If anyone needs help with the $10 youth entry fee, let us know.     A group of students from Revelstoke, B.C., finished breakfast Sunday at the Top Notch Café in Colfax and walked south along Main Street to the Siesta Motel where they had resided since Wednesday.     Whitman County Fire District No. 4 in Palouse has received a $13,000 matching grant for wildland firefighting equipment. The money comes from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program. The Palouse department will match $6,500 from the state to buy coveralls, helmets, boots and eye protection.     Michael Adam Assenberg, 52, of Colfax, said he believes he can do a better job than Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers. He announced his intention to run for the office of county sheriff, although the election is a year and a half away. Assenberg gained notoriety when he was arrested after a May 2011 raid on his home.
