Wreaths Across America ceremony to be held in Steptoe

Ceremony will honor 122 veterans interred at the cemetery

STEPTOE –– There will be a Wreaths Across America (WAA) wreath-laying ceremony at noon this Saturday, Dec. 16, in observance of National Wreaths Across America Day at Bethel Cemetery on Scholz Road in Steptoe.

Organizer Cherry Alice Van Tine said this year's event honors 122 veterans, two more than last year's event.

The event will have a special ceremony to recognize each Armed Forces branch, and Emergency Responders will be recognized.

Van Tine said that volunteer veterans present honorees, and this year, the Steptoe School sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will come to help set up for the ceremony after they help place wreaths in the cemetery on Friday, Dec. 15, to share the organization's message with them.

The National Organization works with local programs to deliver veterans' wreaths for placement at Arlington National Cemetery. The escort stops at schools and monuments in various communities along the East Coast route to share the organization's mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach about our nation's heroes.

Van Tine encourages everyone to come to the ceremony and remember the national heroes with them.
