Pie social coming to Albion

Event created to help promote the history of the town

ALBION — The Guy Albion Society is resuming its annual Pie Social after a two-year hiatus on Saturday, June 11.

The event runs from 3-5 p.m. in the Albion Community Building, 310 N. F St.

“This upcoming event will be our 40th pie social. We haven’t had it for two years because of COVID,” Guy Albion Society President Craig Whitney of Albion said.

The event is open to everyone and the social will feature folk music from the Pioneer Ramblers.

“This event is a fund-raiser to support our museums and newsletter. People are kind enough to donate pies. We serve pies ala mode, too,” Whitney said.

The Guy Albion Historical Society was formed in 1980 and the first pie social was in 1981.

The group formed to help preserve local Albion history and has roughly 150 members.

“All of our members have ties to Albion and Whitman County,” Whitney said, “People should come. It’s a chance for people to visit our museums.

“We have two museum rooms there and people can learn about our history.”

There will be entertainment and the pies are pretty good, Whitney said.

“Kids are welcome and you’ll normally see them dancing,” he noted.
