COLFAX - A local couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, May 12.

Jim Kroll and Kathy Grimm started dating in 1969.

"Its a pretty special thing that doesn't happen too often anymore," Kathy Kroll said.

"She was steadfast and loved me, what can I say?" Jim Kroll noted.

They met at church and married at the First Baptist Church in 1972, the Krolls reported.

Jim and Kathy Kroll credit their many years together to commitment, sticking to the good, and love.

"We worked hard for each other and our lord," Kathy Kroll said.

"Learn to love early," Jim Kroll said. "You make a commitment when you get married and if you're going to be together for 50 years you need to learn to love each other."

He graduated from Central Washington State College in 1971, and worked at Kroll Machine & supply ; Supply with his father, Everett, and his brother, Mike.

Kathy graduated from Kelsey-Baird Secretarial School and went to work as a legal secretary at the Savage and Nuxoll Law Firm in 1972.

She continued working for the firm through many name changes until it was Libey & Ensley, PLLC.

She is now employed by McGuire, DeWulf, Kragt & Johnson after they purchased the firm in 2017.

Jim continues to work for Kroll Machine & Supply.

The couple now enjoys taking the occasional trip to the Oregon Coast and spending time with their family and friends.

"Hopefully, someday we will retire," Kathy Kroll said.

Jim and Kathy have two daughters, sons-in-law and two grandchildren. Their daughters and families didn't stray too far from home and reside in Richland and Kirkland.

Jim and Kathy celebrated with family gatherings and look forward to spending more time together.
