Colfax boys split with Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in rainy doubleheader

COLFAX - The No. 4-seeded Colfax Bulldogs boys baseball team advanced to the District semifinal game Tuesday, May 6, after eliminating Kettle Falls from the postseason.
The local Bulldogs topped the No. 5-seeded northern Bulldogs, 9-1, to advance.
Individual statistics were not available by press time.
The local boys were scheduled to play the Jenkins (Chewelah) Cougars in the 4 p.m., semifinal.
The top-ranked Cougars topped the No. 8-seeded Davenport Gorillas to advance.
The results of the Colfax-Jenkins game were not available when the newspaper went to press.
The winner of the semifinal will advance to the District championship game May 14, as well as earning a spot in the state playoffs.
The loser will play a loser-out game the same day, with the winner taking the No. 3 NE2B slot into the postseason.
Bulldogs split
The Colfax Bulldogs boys baseball team split with the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna Broncos during a doubleheader on a rainy, blustery Friday afternoon, May 6.
The Bulldogs took one game 14-6, but dropped the other, 6-5.
The game was rescheduled after being rained out Thursday.
In the win, Colfax scored 6 runs before the Broncos could get on the board with 1 run in the bottom of the third.
The Bulldogs added one more run in the fourth and fifth innings, before the Broncos could cross home plate again in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the sixth and both teams notched four scores in the seventh for the 14-6 final.
Several Colfax players scored twice in the game, including J.D. Peterson, Ryan Henning, Mason Gilchrist, Cody Inderrieden and J.J. Bodey.
Others putting points on the board for Colfax include Brayden Plummer, Dawson Lobdell and Carsen Gray.
Inderrieden, Alex Mortensen and Bodey all had 2 RBIs.
Broncos scoring in the game include Cooper Miller, Brody Boness, Owen Telecky, Michael Fortin, Jace Kelley and Brix Curtis.
Chase Galbreath notched the only RBI for the Broncos.
Peterson pitched 6 innings for the Bulldogs in the win. Gilchrist and Lobdell also took the mound for short stints.
Galbreath pitched 4 innings for the Broncos, and Kelly closed the last 3. Both pitchers gave up 7 hits and 7 runs.
In going 2-for-5 at the plate, Henning also had 3 RBIs.
In the loss, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first inning.
Lind-Ritzville added 3 more runs in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.
The Bulldogs fifth-inning rally fell short, but Colfax put 2 more points on the board, closing the margin to 6-5, the final score.
Henning and Gilchrist each score twice in the game, while Plummer added 1 run.
Inderrieden had 3 RBIs; teammates Henning and Lobdell each added 1.
For the Broncos, Miller scored 3 times, Galbreath twice and Telecky once.
Fortin and Boness each had 2 RBIs.
Mortensen pitched 4 innings for the Bulldogs in the loss; Inderrieden 2.
Mortensen gave up 3 hits and 6 runs; Inderrieden didn't give up a hit or a run.
On the mound for Ritzville, Telecky pitched more than 4 innings, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs.
Kelley pitched the remaining 2-plus innings, giving up 3 hits and 0 runs.
