WELLPINIT - The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves finished their football season Saturday on a high note by topping the 0-4 Wellpinit Redskins 66-20.

Details of the game were not available.

The season-ending win was the first victory on the gridiron for the Timberwolves (1-3) this year.

And, it was the second game for Tekoa-Rosalia last week.

On March 9 a late charge by the Timberwolves came up short as the football team fell, 64-42, to the Wilbur-Creston/Keller Wildcats (4-1).

"It was a good game, but we just didn't get it down," Timberwolves Coach Jay Scholz said after the game.

The Wildcats hit the field ready to play and jumped to a quick 14-0 lead on the ground with straight-ahead dives by running back Wrangler Wagner and off-tackle keepers and bootlegs by quarterback Beckett Odegaard. They are a duo that the Timberwolves were unable to shut down the entire game.

Tekoa-Rosalia was unable to make up that first-quarter 14-point deficit, but the Timberwolves began putting points on the board in the second quarter - Kale Struble, Cole Peterson and Wesley Bryan were among the Timberwolves leading the effort on the field.

The Wildcats continued to put points on the board, adding another 18 in the second quarter to take a 32-14 lead to the locker room at halftime.

Wilbur-Creston added 12 more in the third, while only giving up 6 to the Timberwolves.

At the end of three quarters, the margin was 44-20. Wilbur-Creston added 20 more in the fourth while Tekoa-Rosalia added 22 for the final score of 64-42.

"We just couldn't stop their run," Scholz said.

He chalked up the slow start to being a young team. The Timberwolves are young, with eighth-grader Bryan taking the field for much of the game.

Individual statistics were not available.
