Book fair goes virtual

COLFAX—The annual Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by the Colfax School District PTO will be twice as long with more titles to browse this year as the event has been moved to an on-line format.

“We always have an amazing turnout for in-person fairs, and we really enjoy seeing the kids get so excited for new books,” said Hannah Kuhl, book fair coordinator. “Hosting an online fair will be different for everyone, but it’s the main way the PTO can get new books into our classrooms.”

The PTO uses proceeds from the book fair to help teachers buy books for their classrooms and for the elementary Christmas Book Exchange. The PTO buys books with the book fair proceeds and allows each student to choose one book to gift to another student during their Christmas party. The PTO also sponsors a drawing during the book fair, where one child in every elementary school classroom wins a free book.

Kuhl noted with the on-line shopping, people can browse all and any titles Scholastic has to offer, which is by far more than fit in the Jennings’ library where the event is usually held. Book orders are shipped directly to your door with orders of $25 and more shipping for free. The PTO received 25% of the online proceeds which go into buying more books for the school district and students.

The book fair runs from Oct. 5 to Oct. 18.
