Amy Ferguson is new Albion librarian

Amy Ferguson, 27, Pullman, is the new branch manager at the Albion Library. Ferguson started working as circulation staff at the Colfax Library September of 2019 and was hired as branch manager for Albion this month. She replaces Tim Wang.

Ferguson grew up in Pendleton, Ore., and moved to Washington to study biology at the University of Puget Sound. She received a bachelor's degree in 2014. She is currently working on completing her master's degree in immunology and infectious disease. Ferguson expects to finish her thesis later this year.

Her fiancé, Bryce Hart, is a software engineer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory. In her free time, Ferguson enjoys reading, baking and watercolor painting.

Ferguson is the only staff member at Albion Library, but said she is looking to hire a potential substitute.

When asked about being a librarian with a degree in science, she said, "I hadn't thought I'd be [a librarian], but I've fallen in love with it. I'm happy and fulfilled. I love making connections with the community."

Ferguson is working to expand the Albion Book Club and the Knitting Club. Book Club will meet the first Monday of every month, with the exception of next month. They will instead meet Feb. 17.

Ferguson had a difficult time picking her favorite book, but said the Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien is special to her because her father read them to her as a child. These books "...really helped foster a love of fantasy that has persisted to this day," she said.

The Knitting Club has been inactive the past few months, but will start meeting the first Tuesday of every month at the library.

"Galentine's Day" is also coming to the library Feb. 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Inspired from Parks and Recreation, children are invited to join for a Valentine's celebration filled with self-care, crafts and chocolate.

Washington State University STEM Club meets at the library every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to work on a science-based curriculum.

Albion Library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
