Roxy Dickerson digs one out for the Eagles.
The St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles went to Toppenish Oct. 4 to face a winless Yakama Nation team and came back still with one win of their own.
The home team, on their homecoming, beat the Eagles 38-6.
"Yakama was pretty jacked up. They took it to us and we didn't respond," said SJEL Coach Rich Hallenius. "They were faster than they looked on video."
St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse (1-4, 0-3 league) scored their touchdown late in the first half, when Doug Stach, a defensive back, picked up a fumble and ran it in from 35 yards out.
The Eagles played the game without junior defensive back Wyatt Walker, who is recovering from injury. He will not play this week either as SJEL goes to Touchet (0-4, 0-3) seeking a key win before meeting Pomeroy at St. John Oct. 18 for homecoming.
"We need some momentum," Hallenius said.
Game time Friday at Touchet is 3 p.m.
LEAGUE LOOK
In Southeast 1B football standings, Lyle/Wishram (2-0 in league) and Tekoa/Rosalia (3-0) are at the top followed by DeSales and Colton, both at 2-1. Pomeroy and Sunnyside Christian are 2-2. Yakama Nation, with their win over SJEL, is now 1-3 overall in league. The Eagles and Touchet are both 0-3.
St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse beat Colton in their first game of the season, but it was an added game to fill an opening bye week for both teams. The Eagles-Wildcats league game that counted was Sept. 27, with Colton winning 26-22.
Colton had a bye this week and will play Friday at Tekoa/Rosalia (Rosalia). Game time is 7 p.m.
The Southeast 1B league has expanded for football this year, adding Lyle/Wishram, Yakama Nation and DeSales.
