Reusable bags, cups support for local groups

Moscow Food Co-op donated $1,681 to Animal House Ferals and the Palouse Land Trust with funds gathered by the Co-op’s Dime in Time program. Co-op customers also donated $418 to a third, permanent Dime in Time beneficiary, the Co-op Community Fund, to bring the total donations to $2,099.

Dime in Time is a community giving program that offers all customers of the Co-op a wooden dime for every reusable bag or cup they use. Customers donate their dimes to the beneficiary of their choice. Each Co-op shopper is invited to bring multiple reusable bags and cups to increase their support. In the past three months, 20,998 disposables were diverted from the waste stream by Co-op shoppers using reusable bags and cups.

The Palouse Land Trust is a grassroots land conservation organization based in Moscow whose mission is to conserve the open space, scenery, wildlife habitat and water quality of the Palouse region.

Animal House Ferals is a 501c(3) non-profit located in Moscow, dedicated to helping animals in need and educating people to help eliminate animal cruelty and neglect.

The Co-op Community Fund is a program that harnesses the power of “interest income” to double the strength of each donated dollar. The Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation provides loan capital to co-ops around the country, and returns the interest to the Moscow Food Co-op each year. Beginning in 2020, this “interest income” will be returned to local organizations in the form of grants.
