Colfax softball team posts 1-2 at state show

Dayton/Waitsburg Saturday defeated Colfax 5-2 Saturday morning to end the Colfax run at the state 2B softball tournament at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.

Colfax went into the elimination game after defeating Liberty Christian in their Friday opener and then losing to Ocosta in the quarter-final round.

Dayton/Waitsburg Saturday morning posted two runs in the first inning and led Colfax all the way. Colfax had six hits with Abbie Miller rapping a double and two singles, and Chelsea Becker hitting a double and single.

Dayton pitcher Megan Robins walked just two Bulldogs and struck out eight to keep Dayton in the consolation round.

After stopping Colfax, Dayton/Waitsburg was eliminated in the next consolation round by Onalaska 11-4, and Adna then eliminated Onalaska in the next round on the way to the consolation final where they were stopped by Pe Ell/Willapa which went home with the third-place trophy.

Colfax went into the Saturday elimination game after an 8-11 endurance loss to Ocosta in a quarter-final game which was pushed back to a 9:35 p.m. starting time. Ocosta had a 7-3 lead after four innings, and the Bulldogs broke out with five runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead, but Onalaska scored two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Anni Cox, Becker and Greta Geier each had two of the 12 Colfax hits.

In their 11-9 win over Liberty Christian in the Friday opener, Colfax took an 11-3 lead into the last inning and held on while LC scored six runs.

Cox, Miller and Becker each had two hits in the first game.

Abbie Miller pitched all three games.

The Colfax softball season finished at 13-9.

Northwest Christian, the NE league’s top entry, took the tourney with a 3-0 win over Napavine in the title game Saturday to remain undefeated for the season. The Crusaders took three tourney wins to get to the title game.

Liberty and Lind/Ritzville/Sprague, the other two entries out of the NE league, both sustained two defeats in the first day.

Game Two: Ocosta 11-Colfax 8. Miller walked 7, struck out 6, allowed 10 hits. Colfax hits: Cox 2b, 2-1b, Becker 2b, 1b; Geier 2-1b; Miller Hahn, Abby Boyer, Maddy Shrope, Riane Jones, each 1b.

GameThree: Dayton/Waitsburg 5-Colfax 2. Miller walked 2, struck out 2, allowed five hits. Colfax hits: Mille 2b, 2-1b; Becker 2b, 1b; Shorpe 1b.
