Entry change to will improve security for CHS building

Changes to the main entryway for Colfax High School to improve security, tagged as a top priority by the district’s facilities committee leading up to the $18.9 million bond which passed Feb. 13, is expected to allow for school staff to see who is coming into the building.

The floor design of the high school building does not allow office staffers to see people who enter until they are well into the foyer.

In 2013, the Jennings Elementary office was remodeled to create a single-door entry to the school which went through the office. A visitor first must press a button and be seen to be buzzed in.

The school’s previous main entry, a bank of doors with no view point for staff, now remains locked.

Plans for the revised high school entry will come together this spring as Supt. Jerry Pugh and the school board work with an architect on specific plans.

“The new entry will be in a manor that will be a hundred times better than what it is,” said Pugh. “It’s on the high priority list for us to do. It remains there. Safety is our big priority.”
