Dahmen exhibiting Sewell paintings

This Andrew Sewell work, titled “Salmon River Sunrise,” is a large-format oil on canvas.

Watercolor and oil works by Andrew Sewell of Viola will be at the Dahmen Barn Jan. 4 through Feb. 25. An opening reception will be today, Thursday, Jan. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Full-time artist Sewell captures what the Northwest has to offer. He desires to paint what would be difficult or next to impossible to capture with a camera, yet possible to create in a painting. He strives for an almost photographic reality in places, yet at the same time produces an obviously painted image.

Andy enjoys the moods that can be created and captured in watercolor. Two years ago, he added oil painting to his artistic quest. His oils are usually larger, but still capture the light and mood of the Palouse.
