Bulldog boys edge Broncos for 6-0 run

A slim win Tuesday night at Davenport finished out a three-win week for the Colfax boys as they stretched their record to 6-0 in the pre-Christmas run of the NE league. Colfax edged the Gorillas 57-54 on the road Tuesday.

The win over the Gorillas follows a big win on the road at Asotin Friday and another road win Saturday at Ritzville over the Broncos.

At 6-0 in the league, Colfax has paced St. George’s, which is also undefeated.

Colfax Coach Reece Jenkin rates the Dragons at the top of the league this year. The Bulldogs will play at St. George’s when league action resumes Jan. 5.

Tuesday at Davenport, Colfax trailed 24-32 at the break but lashed the Gorillas 17-2 in the third quarter to take control. They then fended off the last Gorilla charge with strong shooting at the toss line.

Carson Cloaninger finished with 23 points to again lead the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs dropped seven three-point shots on the Gorillas with Cloaninger and Cal Gregory each hitting two.

Davenport now stands at 3-3 in league action.

Saturday at Ritzville, Colfax ran into a Bronco buzz saw in the first quarter. The hosts put Colfax in a 9-1 hole at the start, but Colfax answered with an 18-5 comeback in the second quarter for a 25-14 lead at the half, and they added to the lead over the last two frames for a 47-29 win.

Again, Colfax used the full court press to shut down the Broncos’ offense.

Colfax needed defense because of shaky shooting for most of the game.

One low point for the Ritzville stop was sluggish shooting for both sides of the toss line: Colfax hit 4-12 and the Broncos hit 3-10.

Colfax made the trip to Ritzville after taking as 65-42 win Friday in a snowy trip to Asotin. The Bulldogs hit 57 percent from the field and added five three-pointers on a strong shooting night.

Asotin failed to sink a three-point shot on 10 attempts and hit just more than half of their field shots.

Cloaninger hit 14 to top Colfax against the Panthers. He rolled up 11 points in the second half.

Cal Gregory, who had a 5-6 night at the toss line, finished with 13.

The Panthers had a lean 4-11 night at the line.

Noah Renzelman led Asotin with 14 points, and Thomas Martin finished with 13.
