Malden OES concludes busy year

This year has been another busy year for Malden Order of Eastern Star with Worthy Matron Nancy Hathaway and Worthy Patron Max Hathaway at the helm.

Long-time secretary Gwelda Henning retired, and members voted to honor her service with a plaque.

The club was honored this year by the appointment of two deputy instructors from our chapter which was the first time the Grand Chapter of Washington has had two from the same chapter.

Lynda Jean Jamison and Kathy Seville were the honored members.

Both were members of Hope Chapter prior to their merging with Malden, so their honor night in October was in the Lodge Hall in Oakesdale.

Also, the officials visited with the Martha Chapter in Cheney in October.

Charlene Jacobs was awarded a pin from the Worthy Grand Matron for her outstanding memory work.

In June, the chapter served dinner to the John Wayne Trail Riders and auctioned off various donated items.

The profits from the auction were donated to the K.B. Trunkey cancer fund.

During the year the chapter donated to Rainbow Girls, Jobs Daughters, DeMolay, Grand ChapterGolf Tourney, Estarl, Cancer Research, University of Washington Diabetic Research, Alzheimers Research and Ronald McDonald House.

Installation of officers was on April 10 with Jean and Dale Flanigen serving as Worthy Matron and Patron for the first time.

Jean's special project is the Fisher House, which provides accommodations for military families while their spouses are undergoing rehabilitation.

Past Matrons and Past Patrons luncheon will be at Malden Chapter Wednesday, April 26, at noon.

The cost will be $10.

The Trail Riders will be here in June, and Grand Chapter is in Yakima June 26-28.

Sandra Cavallo donated corn bags for sale and raised enough money for us to purchase a much needed new microwave oven for the kitchen.

This year the chapter mourned the passing of Eugene Engstrom, Ruth Paddock, Gladys Prouty and Jackie Henderson and celebrated the reinstatement of Judith Babbit Helinke.

They also mourned the passing of Past Grand Patron Dick Weigel from Martha Chapter in Cheney who was a great supporter and good friend to Malden Chapter.
