Nighthawks finish 8-0 league run

Oakesdale Nighthawks booked a solid three-game win over Pomeroy Tuesday to finish out an 8-0 record in the SE volleyball campaign. The Pirates traveled to Pomeroy Tuesday with a 6-1 league record after stopping Colton last Thursday.

Other Tuesday action saw LaCrosse/Washtucna/Kahlotus top St. John/Endicott in three games in a league round which decided fourth place.

Colton battled Garfield/Palouse for five games before pegging a win in the last round. The Wildcats will get the second slot in the playoff, and Pomeroy will be in the number-three slot.

Playoff action starts Wednesday with LWK and SJE facing off again at 6 p.m. in the Oakesdale gym. The Nighthawks will play the winner of the 4-5 game. Other playoff action will be at Colton with Pomeroy and Waitsburg in the first round and the winner going up against number-two Colton.

The Wildcats and Pomeroy tied at 6-2 in the league run, but Colton takes second place because they topped the Pirates in the first-round match that counted on the league ledger.

Oakesdale Tuesday stopped Pomeroy 25-17 25-19 and 25-16 to finish out the 8-0 league round. The 'hawks lone stutter point was a 2-6 lead posted by the Pirates in the second frame.

Logan Reed booked six blocks, 13 kills and 12 digs in the final match, and Jacey Johnson slammed 17 kills at the Pirates. Lindsey Lindgren had 19 assists.

Kacey Halbert hit six kills for the Pirates, and Sydney Smith had eight assists.

LaCrosse/Washtucna/Kahlotus topped the Eagles 25-13 25-19 19-25 and 25-13 in the senior night match at Washtucna. Jazzmyn Gordon hit 19 kills, with six aces in the win, and Nicole Harder had 22 assists and 18 assists.

Hunter Hollingsworth hit 11 kills for the Eagles, and Glory Dickerson had 21 assists. Jadyn Corder hit five aces.

Garfield/Palouse, which rolled to Colton with a 0-7 mark, took the Wildcats to five games, but Colton took the win 20-25 25-10 25-16 21-25 and 15-11.

Kendyl Druffel finished with 16 kills and three aces, and Jordyn Moehrle had 21 digs. Payson Griner had 13 kills for the Vikings, and Hope Kriebel had 22 assists. Tuli O'Neill hit three aces.

Pomeroy Thursday defeated Colton on the Wildcats' court 25-22 25-20 25-22 with Deana Caruso rapping 10 kills and Sydney Smith putting up 21 assists. Carmen Gingerich had 10 digs.

Emily Schultheis hit nine kills and six blocks for the Wildcats, and Moehrle had 16 digs. Abby Kelly had 16 assists.

Oakesdale remained in front of the pack with a three-game win over LWK 25-11 25-8 and 25-12. Jacey Johnson hit 15 kills and had five blocks, and Madison Shrope put up 30 assists in the short match. LaCrosse made the trip with several varsity players out of the lineup for the FFA nationals.

St. John/Endicott took out Garfield/Palouse in the Thursday round. The Vikings won the first game 25-21, but the Eagles took the last three, 25-21 25-16 25-18, with Corder booking 10 kills and 12 digs, Cydney Selk pulling 18 assists and Caitlin Blumenschein hitting eight aces.
