Chapter books presentation

The Palouse Falls Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute has booked a guest lecture in November.

Nick Zentner, a professor of geology at Central Washington University, will present “Flood Basalts of the Pacific Northwest” on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Ritz Theatre in Ritzville.

The free lecture will teach about the source, size, magnitude, frequency and the uniqueness of the Ice Age floods, according to a chapter press release.

“He's going to be teaching about the basalt floods, the first floods that came in our area,” said Lloyd Stoess, chapter president.

In addition to the presentation, the chapter will also have its annual meeting right before Zentner's lecture. The group is seeking volunteers to fill committee positions.

“We currently have two openings,” said Stoess.

The chapter is seeking to fill its membership and program chairs. The membership chair keeps track of the members of the chapter, while the program chair helps to coordinate programs such as the presentations. Stoess said the chapter has four programs per year, minimum.

Stoess said this meeting will be the one where the board is elected for the following year. The group has six board meetings per year, in which they decide on things such as activities and field trips for the chapter.

Anyone interested in a committee position should contact Peggy Bryan.
