Fire on Shawnee Road

Fire crews from Colfax, Diamond, Steptoe, Albion and Pullman District 12 responded last Thursday, Aug. 18, at about 2:22 p.m. to a field fire on Shawnee Road across from the Larry Cochran residence. The fire burned eastbound toward the Cochran rock pit above South Palouse River Road.

Mark Cochran estimated they lost about 20 acres of winter wheat. The fire is believed to have started off the turbo unit of a truck. Cochran’s daughter, Claire, was driving the truck.
