May Day exhibit set at Dahmen

A reception on May Day, Sunday, May 1, from 1 to 3 p.m., will open the Art in Bloom exhibit at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. This is a garden-themed art show in honor of the forgotten holiday, May Day, once a widespread rite of spring in the United States. This exhibit includes a variety of 2D and 3D mediums featuring items for use outdoors and indoors: floral and garden inspired paintings in watercolor, pastel, oil and collage, jewelry and sculptural items made of glass, papier maché and metal by resident and invited artists. The exhibit runs through May 29.

Also during the opening reception will be a book signing of "The Palouse Prairie Field Guide, An Introductory Pocket Field Guide to Native Plants, Agriculture Crops and Invasive Weeds for the Curious," by Dave M. Skinner, Jacie Jensen and Gerry Queener. The book may be purchased at The Shop at the Barn.

CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS

Rosalia

Garden Club

The club plans their spring garden tour May 4 with a slight change from the agenda listed in the club yearbook. Members should plan to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Rosalia Mini-Park to share rides.

They will start at Tower Perennial Gardens, 4010 E Jameson Road., Spokane at 10:15 a.m. The change is necessary because early season heat caused the tulips at Arbor Crest, the original first stop, to be past prime.

From Tower Perennials Gardens, they will travel to Spokane Community College for a 11:45 a.m. luncheon at Orlando's, the dining restaurant managed by SCC Culinary Students.

Members are also reminded about the Gala East District Garden Club Fundraiser "Herbal Creations" April 30 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral Church, 127 East 12th Avenue, Spokane. This event is open to the public, but a $15 pre-ticket must by purchased. For further information, contact President Mary Ann Bowman.
