Champions at CWU Robotics Tournament

The SciBorgs Team 4061 scored a big win at CWU's District Event and is now ranked third in the Pacific Northwest District.

The 4H Palouse Area Robotics Team, known as the SciBorgs, returned victorious from Ellensburg last weekend during Week 3 of FRC competition. The SciBorgs (Team 4061) scored a big win at CWU's District Event competing against 40 other FIRST high school teams. The SciBorgs Team 4061 is now ranked third in the Pacific Northwest District out of 158 teams from Washington and Oregon.

“After losing in the finals at our West Valley event, we were definitely looking to do well at Ellensburg. It was a turbulent first day for our team,” said Aaron Su, senior student leader and Drive Team Coach. “But we pulled ourselves together and teamed up with a team from Seattle (Skunkworks) and a team from Spokane (CV Bearbots) to take home a blue WINNERS banner. But it’s not all about the winning. It was also very satisfying to help other teams when their robots weren’t working or needed some additional programming for a match. It was an awesome event and we are fortunate to have such a great team.”

Now beginning its fifth season, this STEM-focused team has grown to 40 members from five high schools: Colfax, Colton, Pullman, Garfield/Palouse and Moscow.

Bill Herrmann, electrical engineer and fifth year mentor stated, “It’s an honor to work with Whitman County students and help them see their potential and possible future careers. It’s more than robots. This team learns about the business of running a team, and older students learn to mentor the younger students.”

The SciBorgs compete next at the Pacific Northwest Championships in Portland April 6-9.
