Colfax boys basketball wrapped up another season last Tuesday with their annual banquet. Four seniors who sat at the head table along with the coaches were Dustyn Hall, Keith Gfeller, Kenton Lyman and Jacob Soncarty.

Top individual awards were presented at the Colfax boys basketball banquet to Lyman, most inspirational; Carson Cloaninger, most improved, and Danny Robinson, most valuable player. Cal Gregory was named to receive the Bulldog award.

Robinson is a junior, and Cloaninger is a freshman who was brought up to the varsity and finished the season dropping three pointers in the league playoffs.

Coach Reece Jenkin presented captain awards to his three senior players, Hall, Gfeller and Lyman. Gfeller was also recognized for being named to the all-NE second team.

Jenkin noted the team marked many accomplishments in learning to work together as a team and overcome adversity. He noted the Bulldogs dug themselves a 1-3 hole at the start of the NE run and later in the season finished with a 3-1 run against the same teams in the south side of the league run.

One of those games was against St. George's when the Bulldogs posted a late-charge win over the Dragons, but the edge fell short of a nine-point margin required by the league to break a tie in the south side standings. That finish led to a pairing against the top league powers, and Colfax ran into the juggernaut Northwest Christian team and then Springdale to end the season in the NE playoffs at West Valley.

Other varsity players recognized at the banquet were Danny Robinson, who was named a first league player as a junior; Jared Kneale, a junior; Jaydon Soncarty and Cal Gregory, sophomores.

Also recognized for varsity honors were junior varsity players who advanced to the varsity as swing players and saw game time as the season advanced. That included Cloaninger, Caleb Berquist, Brett Fulfs, Tucker Gleason and Caleb Brown.

Coach Ben Aune, who booked a 16-3 record with his jayvee team this year, noted he tried to "hide" some of his top players as the season advanced. Besides the five swing players, he presented jayvee awards to Bennett Gray, Chase Baerlocher and Bryan Rubin.

Coach Randy Daniels presented C squad awards to Josh Goebel, Austin Ring, Kelan Becker, Mason Miller, Dakota Hall and Chris Aspenwall. Also recognized were Connor Johnson, Augie Allenbach and exchange student Gonzalo San Ramon who were not present at the banquet.
